DIY Tetris Photo Backdrop
Photo booths have quickly become the must-have entertainment rental for parties and wedding receptions. Of course, not everyone has it in their budget to rent a photo booth for a few hours. But the Internet is an inventive Internet, and has provided us with a solution: you can make your own DIY photo booth-all you need is a wall.
Set up a cool-looking backdrop against said wall, get your camera out, and your guests will be entertained for a solid 2 hours. Plus, they have something cute they can share and tag on social media. So, with a special toddler birthday coming up, we obviously had to make one of our own. After all, after a child turns 2 years old, parents no longer have the authority to choose themes anymore. We had to milk this one for all it was worth.
We've seen backdrops made out of ribbons and balloons, but we haven't seen many that are made from paper plates. We originally came up with the idea for the Tetris backdrop after seeing this DIY wave backdrop on Double the Fun Parties. Check out the pictures below and let us know what you think!
What you'll need:
- 4-6 packages of solid color square plates
- Painter's tape
PatienceIt's been a while since we played the game, so we had to grab a photo to use as a reference for the shapes and colors. We couldn't find any turquoise-colored plates, so we just left them out. It didn't make a big difference in the end.
Using the painter's tape, we started taping the plates to the wall and after a few minutes, it started to feel like we were playing Tetris in real life.
We made sure to include some shapes at the top of the wall to make it look like they were "falling". There were some noticeable gaps in between some of the plates, so we had to adjust and readjust quite a few times. And there still ended up being some spaces. We apologize in advance to our OCD readers.
The whole project only took about an hour. The hardest part was making sure that the plates were straight and there wasn't too much space between each one. Looking back, we probably would have put a huge piece of black colored paper to use as the background, to give the backdrop a bit more contrast.
